RDT Bathalapalli Hospital has been reappointed as an exclusive COVID-19 centre upon the request of the district authorities.  With the capacity to accommodate 245 beds, out of which 213 are with oxygen supply, the main hospital of Rural Development Trust has, once again, come forward to support the local authorities to handle the rapid surge in the number of cases that the country and the district are facing.

The official announcement was made on 19th April at Bathalapalli Hospital by the Anantapur District Collector and Magistrate, Sri Gandham Chandrudu who was joined by RDT Executive Director, Anne Ferrer and RDT Program Director, Moncho Ferrer.

“RDT will work tirelessly to ensure that no one is left behind in this pandemic. RDT Bathalapalli Hospital team is ready, prepared and committed to help those in need,” declared Moncho Ferrer during the event.  “However, in order to achieve that I would also like to appeal to your individual responsibility and urge you to follow the COVID-19 preventive measures: Wear your mask, wash your hands and practice social distancing. We all play an important role in stopping the spread of this virus!”

During the last few months, RDT Bathalapalli Hospital has undergone some renovation works in order to accommodate more beds and have more oxygen supply points as compared to the first wave, and has conducted several trainings for the staff.

We have decided to convert the entire general hospital into a COVID-19 Centre due to the increase in the number of cases. This time the virus is spreading faster with increasing severity, especially among those between 30 and 50 years old.  The need is urgent,” expressed Dr. Praveen Kumar, Director of RDT Bathalapalli Hospital. “We have been preparing ourselves for this. We are here to help, to act and to fight this virus,” added the director.

RDT Bathalapalli Hospital was already appointed COVID-19 Healthcare centre from April to October 2020, during which it treated over 6,800 patients – a task and a commitment for which the facility received a double recognition by the Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh. It was awarded as one of the two best private hospitals for COVID-19 in the whole of Andhra Pradesh as well as for having the Best Support Staff in the FNO/MNO category.
