  • Anne Ferrer is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Rural Development Trust, an NGO fighting poverty in rural India since 1969.
  • The aim of the Eenadu Vasundara Mahila award is to recognise and highlight the role of women in various fields to commemorate the International Women’s Day, 8th March.

Ms. Anne Ferrer, Co-founder and Executive Director of Rural Development Trust (RDT) was presented with the “Eenadu Vasundara Mahila award in the Best Social Work 2020 category. The ceremony took place on Saturday, 7th March at the Ramoji Film city, Hyderabad (Telangana). The award was presented by Sailajar Kiran, Managing Director at M/s Margadarsi Chit Fund Ltd, who praised the work of RDT.

The jury highlighted the commitment of Ms. Anne Ferrer and her husband Vicente Ferrer to working with disadvantaged communities in India for the last 50 years for the eradication of poverty. It also emphasised the efforts of the organisation towards providing quality healthcare for the vulnerable groups of the society through RDT Hospitals’ network and improving the situation of women living in rural areas.

Ms. Anne Ferrer expressed her gratitude for the award and thanked Eenadu group for it. “I have seen women in Anantapur and all around the country at the forefront of their development, of the development of their families and of their communities. This award gives me a lot of motivation and courage to keep working for many years,” she concluded her speech at the award ceremony.

About the award

Eenadu Vasundara Mahila award’s aim is to recognise and highlight the role of women in various fields, such as social work, culture, business, sports, agriculture, on the occasion of International Women Day, 8th of March.

The jury of the award is composed of 16 relevant personalities, such as Dr.N. Jayalatha, director of MNJ Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Sri B. Venkateshwam, IAS, Secretary to Government of Telangana for Backward Classes Welfare, the social activists Dr. Mamatha Raghuveer Achanta and Dr. T. Lakshmamma, vice chairperson of Higher Education Council of Andhra Pradesh, among others.
