Judo Academy in RDT

Judo GameJudo has been doing very well in Ananthapuramu district for the last 3 years. Being an indoor sport, it has spread to even remote rural high schools; which may not have proper playgrounds. Playgrounds in black soil villages get waterlogged with even slight rain and take a few says to recover. Physical Education teachers in many such villages promoted Judo in a big way. As a result, quite a few boy and girls started winning medals in state level tournaments.

Taking note of this, RDT came in with active support to these schools by way of providing Judi material. A daily coaching centre was started at Ananthapuramu sports academy. Given the infrastructure at the academy, national tournaments were hosted by Ananthapuramu. Meanwhile, Devendra, B.Sekhar, M.Nandini, T.Kousar Banu, G.Reddappa Reddy and S.Mohammad Ali won medals for AP for the first time in National tournaments. Judo Federation of India was pleased with these achievements and sent an international coach, Kei Teshigavara from Japan to conduct a summer coaching camp. He was impressed with the talent of Ananthapuramu boys and girls. The Judo Federation of India communicated that it will give official recognition if RDT started an academy. This recognition will bring visiting national and international coaches to the academy.

The academy was inaugurated on 30th May 2015 by the President of J.F.I and RDT’s Program Director. There are 12 boys and 13 girls from the ages 13 to 18. Reddappa is the local coach.
